Remote control system for medium voltage (MV) switches - LPN NEOL

Remote control system for medium voltage (MV) switches - LPN NEOL

The SESTO NEOL remote control system for medium voltage (MV) switches is part of SESTO's non-traction automation system. It is designed for remote control of MV switches in overhead MV lines as well as in cable lines at MV junction boxes or MV/low-voltage transformer stations. The field cabinets for remote control of MV switches are powered by 230V, 50Hz voltage. This voltage is obtained from a single-phase MV/230V transformer or voltage transformer powered by the MV line. They can also be powered by another source (e.g., low-voltage network). The cabinet is equipped with a 24V battery with a corresponding charging and monitoring system.
The system consists of NEOL field cabinets and local control centers.

NEOL field cabinets can work with any MV switch equipped with a 24V DC drive. Communication with any remote control point (center) can be achieved using the following media:

  • GSM networks using GPRS technology,
  • radio networks at the appropriate frequency,
  • fiber optic networks,
  • telecommunication cables.

The SESTO NEOL system performs the following functions:

  • remote control of MV switches (opening and closing),
  • remote monitoring of the MV switch position,
  • remote monitoring of the 230V AC/24V DC power system,
  • remote monitoring of cabinet closures (field and drive cabinets),
  • communication between the field cabinet and the remote control center,
  • collaboration with the switch drive: - closing, - opening,
  • selection of control mode: - remote, - local (buttons on the drive), - manual (crank) with electric drive lockout,
  • monitoring of the drive cabinet closure,
  • optional local control of the switch's electric drive from the field cabinet in cable junctions or transformer stations.
